HISTORY OF AWAAZ

Welcome To Awaaz - The first FREE multi-lingual newspaper in Britain

What is Awaaz?

Featuring Local, national, international and business news, we also regularly cover sports, arts, education, leisure and health issues.

Everything for the Asian Community in a monthly newspaper - absolutely free.

Awaaz is distributed throughout Kirklees, Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Calderdale. It is available to our readers free of charge at a range of local outlets. Our distribution points include major supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda; local shops and small businesses; public information points; libraries; council reception points; local health and
community centers; as well as door-to-door distribution in key areas.

Awaaz is a community newspaper with a growing readership of 86,000.Our multi-lingual content ensures that we reach the diverse range of communities across West Yorkshire, both young and old alike.

Awaaz exists for the development of the community, not for profit. We cover multi-cultural news in the West Yorkshire area. We are diverse as we bring the community news in three languages which no other paper does. Awaaz is printed in English, Urdu and Gujarati.

Awaaz - which means 'voice' - is a unique concept. It is the trusted voice of the ethnic minority community. Our community based approach means that Awaaz reaches all sections of the Asian community as well as getting interest from non-Asian Communities. Indeed we pioneered community - based journalism, using manual typewriters, paste-up boards and cow-gums. Today we use state of the art computers, memory sticks and industry standard Adobe InDesign package for the benefit of our customers and readers.

Awaaz has a varied readership and whilst we target the readership age range of 16 - 55, it is equally popular with other age groups. We also provide a cost effective translation service 'Tarjuma' for all our advertisers to ensure they get their message across to the whole community.

With over twenty-three years serving the Asian population of Yorkshire, we are well known, widely respected and trusted source of information for the community. Awaaz is also well known among local authorities such as Kirklees, Leeds, Wakefield, Bradford and Calderdale. We have a formal
partnership arrangement with Wakefield Council. Where possible we provide
free consultancy, design and publicity service for our clients and customers.

We hope to bring new news each month for our readers, we try our very best to focus on our readers and their interests. You too can join Awaaz's winning team by contributing your message using the perfect medium with original style.

After twenty-three years of experience in community Journalism, Awaaz is a credible and trusted force within the Asian community.

We look forward to working with you.
