Changing lives - Changing communities

Uzma Akram has come to the end of her very successful two year project at CHAS Housing Aid Centre. The post was funded by Neighbourhood Renewal to help improve the lives of local people by providing advice and information on housing related issues.

Two Advice events were held in March and July of this year, with over eight hundred people attending from across North Kirklees. “Members of the local community have clearly demonstrated a willingness to improve the areas they live in. With the help of many services attending the advice events, a positive and sustainable change has been made,” Uzma told Awaaz.

“These advice events also helped to encourage community cohesion and break down barriers and perceptions. My volunteer team was excellent. Thank you!” She said.

“I would like to thank Gus Khan, Eileen Simpson, Kirklees CSS and Neighbourhood Renewal for all the support they have given me in arranging the Advice events. It has been wonderful working with the amazing children, Mrs. Beard and all staff at Manorfield Infant School. Thanks to the team at CHAS and most importantly the local community who have supported me throughout the duration of my project.”

Gus Khan the Neighbourhood Renewal Community Development Officer said: “Changing lives, Changing Communities is the mission statement of Neighbourhood Renewal, and through Uzma’s hard work and commitment this has definitely been the case. Uzma has proved to be a valuable local resource.”
