An action plan has been drawn up to help solve the solution of the under-representation of black players in football management and coaching. Since the PFA instigated the formation of a Black Coaches Steering Group in September 2003, numerous positive steps have been made, with contributions from such as Sir Trevor Brooking, Brendon Batson, Luther Blissett and Keith Alexander. Simone Pound, the PFA’s Equality Development Executive, says that the appointment of former Arsenal and England midfielder Paul Davis as their Football Development Officer is proving an inspiration. “Paul is definitely a great role model when it comes to encouraging black players to take coaching qualifications. “It is imperative that we maintain a dialogue with high profile black players who might be considering a career in coaching and management, and we will circulate the necessary information to all FACA-registered players regarding job opportunities.” Further information www.TheFA.com/FootballForAll.
