New £1 million Housing Development
Opened

Wakefield Council in partnership with Sadeh Lok Housing Group, the Housing Corporation and Richardson Projects Ltd officially opened a new £1 million housing development at Brunswick Close, Wakefield in June.
The site, previously occupied by elderly persons’ bedsits in low demand, now provides accommodation for 26 people - eight large family homes and two specially adapted bungalows for wheelchair users to cater for the BME community and people with disabilities. The homes have been built to a very high design standard in terms of space and energy efficiency with attractive landscaping treatments.

The Council nominated all current applicants on the housing waiting list for the new development.

Wakefield Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Phil Dobson, said: “We are extremely pleased to be opening this new development which ensures that our residents have a chance to live in decent, safe and well-maintained homes at an affordable rent.

“The development represents a substantial investment and we have worked closely with Sadeh Lok to secure the bid from the Housing Corporation to replace the former outdated and empty properties and deliver affordable housing for people in need.”

Ken Elliott, Chief Executive of Sadeh Lok Housing Group said” This scheme provides not only the first new build homes in Wakefield developed by a Black and Ethnic Registered Social landlord, it also provides the first five bedroomed homes for rent to meet the needs of larger families within the District. The scheme has been driven by the commitment of both organizations to meet the needs of the communities in which we work and Sadeh Lok look forward to developing our partnership with the Council further to ensure that Brunswick Street is the first of many successes along the way”
